The Getty Museum; Building a Rose Parade Float

December 30, 2001

A few days after Helen's and my return from Taiwan after a slight bout with food poisoning from the airline food, we were back on our feet in Pasadena. My parents were visiting that week, mostly to see the Rose Parade. We paid a visit to the Getty Museum, outside L.A. The museum is quite a marvel of architecture, and has a surprisingly extensive collection of art. One of the most interesting exhibits was a display of antique optical illusion toys. Unfortunately, I couldn't take photos in that particular exhibit. Another amazing thing about the museum was how well it is run. We happened to be there on one of the rare days in Southern California during which there was rain. Nevertheless, there were buckets of umbrellas by every door that could be borrowed in order to walk between the buildings.
